FAQ

Buffalo Ranch Rustic Home Furnishings

What is Buffalo Ranch?

Buffalo Ranch Rustic Home Furnishings is a locally owned and operated retail store featuring a unique collection of ranch and lodge décor, western art, fine antiques, and collectibles. We have a variety of taxidermy mounts, hair on hide leather furniture and other leather goods (bags, wallets, coasters, etc). We also carry beautiful western inspired jewelry, lighting and gifts. We have everything you need to accessorize yourself and your rustic home, except the fresh country air, that is!

Where are you located?

We have two locations, both of them are in the quaint and historic little town of Weston, Missouri. The addresses are 417 Main Street and 720 Thomas Street . Weston is approximately 35 minutes northwest of Kansas City, Missouri and a quick 20 min drive from the Kansas City International airport.

When are you open?

Buffalo Ranch is open six days a week. From Tuesday through Saturday, we’re here from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm. On Sundays, we’re open from 12:00 noon until 5:00 pm. On the Second Saturday of every month most of the stores in Weston stay open late. Often there is live music in town and the stores will serve snacks and/or drinks. We’re usually here until at least 6:30 pm or later on the Second Saturday. We do close both stores for the entire month of January and February in order to take inventory, rearrange and clean, and go to market. Our 720 Thomas Street location has abbreviated weekday hours in the Spring/Summer season. However, we are always happy to open it for you during our regular weekday business hours, just stop in our Main Street store and ask to see it.

How can I get in touch with you?

There are several ways to contact us. You can phone us at 816-386-4111 or you can send us an email through the “contact” link on this page (that cute little buffalo postage stamp) or you can stop by the store and see us in person. We’ll be happy to help you!

Do you have any buffalo at Buffalo Ranch?

Well, we don’t have any live buffalo here at Buffalo Ranch but we definitely do have buffalo. We have buffalo head/shoulder taxidermy mounts, a buffalo hide rug and buffalo leather wallets and bags. We have jewelry featuring buffalo within the design and jewelry made of buffalo leather and buffalo nickels. We also have art featuring buffalo as the subject matter. So, do we have buffalo at Buffalo Ranch? Yes, we do!

I've been in your store and it smells so good! What candles are you burning?

Gosh, if we had a nickel for every time we’ve heard how good it smells in here we’d be rich! We love the scent of baked goods and fresh-brewed coffee so we looked for those homey smells in a candle form. We have a variety of scents available in the popular wax melt cubes. Best sellers are; Bourbon Maple Sugar, Roasted Espresso, Warm Cinnamon Buns, Snickerdoodle, Pumpkin Vanilla, Hazelnut and Vanilla Pound Cake. Seasonal fragrances are Apples & Spice, Honey Soaked Apples, Gingerbread , and Home for the Holidays. Many of these scents are also available in pottery containers in votive and larger bowl and vase shapes. These candles are made of 100% soy wax and so fragrant that you don’t even have to burn/melt them if you don’t want to, you’ll still get that amazing scent drifting through your home.

You have mounted animals in your store, are they real?

Yes, they're real.

Do you do the taxidermy

No, we sell taxidermy but we aren’t taxidermists. If you’re looking for a local taxidermist the best place to start is to ask someone you know who owns taxidermy for their recommendation or to look on the internet. Taxidermists have to be licensed and some states have a Taxidermy Association with a directory and contact information. Many taxidermists have a website with pictures of their work so you can get an idea of the kind and quality of work they do. Some taxidermists specialize in just fish or just birds or just large game animals, so if one taxidermist can’t help you they can usually refer you to someone who can. Give them a call, it’s our experience that taxidermists generally love to talk about what they do!

How do I take care of a taxidermy mount?

A piece of taxidermy is an investment and should be treated that way. Taking proper care of a mount is fairly intuitive. Excessive handling, sunlight, heat, smoke and dampness can cause the hide and fur to degrade, so they should be avoided. A cool, dry, climate-controlled area is the best environment in which to display taxidermy. Mounted animals should be given frequent but gentle dusting and not touched more than absolutely necessary. Dust fur-bearing animals with a feather duster, a clean soft bristled paint brush or the cool/low setting of a hair dryer. Dust or blow in the direction the fur grows. When you’re finished just rearrange the fur so that it lies naturally. Glass eyes can be wiped with a slightly damp Q-Tip and if you have an animal with horns, the horns can be wiped with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Birds should be dusted with a feather duster or clean soft bristle paint brush. Again dust in the direction the feathers grow and be careful not to break or damage the feathers. The beak and legs can be carefully wiped with a cloth. Fish or reptiles can just be wiped with a slightly damp cloth. If your taxidermy mount becomes damaged or is in need of restoration it should be looked at by a professional taxidermist. Some forms of damage can be repaired but not all taxidermists perform this service.

I have a piece of taxidermy that I want to sell, do you buy or consign taxidermy?

At this time we do not take consignments. The piece would have to be exceptional and something that we were looking for in order for us to buy it. The best thing to do is to contact us and let us know what you have. If it’s something we’re interested in, we can go from there.

I have an antique that I want to sell, do you buy or consign antiques?

At this time we do not take consignments. If the item you have is something that would be a good fit for our store we might be interested in buying it. The best thing to do is to contact us and we can go from there.

Do you sell gift certificates or gift cards?

Yes, we do sell gift certificates. They can be purchased in any denomination you’d like.

Do you have lay-away?

Yes, we do. We require a 20% non-refundable deposit with the balance to be paid within 90 days. If the item has not been picked up within 90 days we’ll give you a reminder call and arrange for a final payment and pick-up date. Final payment must be made with cash or a credit card to avoid a 10 day check processing delay. Lay-a-ways may be cancelled at any time and an in-store credit will be issued for any monies that have been paid above the 20% non-refundable deposit. No cash refunds will be issued. In-store credit may be used at any time on another purchase from Buffalo Ranch Rustic Home Furnishings.

Do you deliver?

It’s best if you can take your item home at the time of purchase. If you need to borrow a trailer or ask a friend with a truck to help you, we can hold your item and schedule another time for you to pick it up.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, most major credit and debit cards, or a check with proper I.D.

I saw something in your store that I dont see on the website . Can I still buy it?

We don’t have pictures of every item we sell on the website so it’s possible we still have what you’re looking for. However, many of the things in our store are one-of-a-kind or antique and the item may already have sold. Your best option is to give us a call to see if we still have it. If the item you’re interested in is still available you can purchase it over the phone with your credit card and we can either ship it to you or hold it until you can pick it up.

What is your return policy?

Due to the unique nature of the merchandise we sell, returns are not accepted. ALL SALES ARE FINAL.
